Professional Information
Jacob Bitinas began his undergraduate degree in August 2010. In the following four years, he studied the latest techniques and research in music education; he graduated cum laude in May of 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education. His focus throughout the degree has been string education under the guidance of Dr. Anne C. Witt. Prior to his internship, he accumulated over 150 hours of teaching and observation specifically in string teaching situations.

Assistant Orchestra Director - July 2014 - Present
Mr. Bitinas provides daily string instruction to over 500 students in
grades 6-8. All six classes of strings are heterogeneous, with
extracurricular opportunities before school each morning. These have
included a chamber orchestra class meeting twice weekly, two double
bass ensembles, a viola choir, and 5 consorts of viola da gamba.
UA Community Music School
Private Instructor - August 2012 - December 2013
Jacob Bitinas teaches private double bass lessons through the
University of Alabama's Community Music School. His students
have been accepted to both ASTA Honor Strings festival and Alabama
All State Orchestra.
Ukulele Instructor - Fall 2012
This position was offered through the Community Music School.
It involved traveling to Tuscaloosa Magnet School to teach a beginning
ukulele class to a group of 4th grade students.
Alabama Symphony Youth Orchestra Mentor
String Bass Mentor - Fall 2012
Jacob Bitinas was one of the founding members of ASYO's mentor program. Through several concert cycles, he aided the 55 piece orchestra of high school and middle school students in small group instruction, full orchestra rehearsals, and concerts.

Collegiate National Association for Music Education - UA Chapter - 2013
As an elected member of the University of Alabama CNAfME chapter, Jacob Bitinas assisted in organizing and planning monthly music education meetings, fundraising functions, and social events. As the instrumental representative, his specific task was to represent the demands and desires of all instrumental music education majors in CNAfME.
Starkville Symphony Orchestra
Section Double Bass - August 2011 - December 2013
Jacob Bitinas performed regularly as a double bassist in the Starkville Symphony Orchestra located in Starkville, Mississippi. His performances included a series of classic works by Beethoven, Mozart, Brahms, Bach, Grieg, Schumann, Gershwin, Purcell, Haydn, Wagner, et cetera, in addition to pops and children's concerts programmed to entertain over 1,000 children over the course of one day.

The organizational duties of a principal orchestra player include cooperating with the other principals to determine bowings, distribute parts, decide on seating arrangements, and help the conductor's interpretation of a score become reality.

Jacob Bitinas has completed extensive coursework in music theory, music history, conducting, instrument methods, educational psychology, and assessment specific to music classes. Most of the coursework within his education has been geared toward learning not only the content, but how to effectively pass that content on to others.
Internship
Jacob Bitinas completed his internship with Allison Lavender at Rock Quarry Middle School and Southview Middle School. At these two locations, he was able to work with a diverse group of string students. His duties included aiding Ms. Lavender with daily instruction, music organization, assessment, field trip planning, and many other aspects of her teaching day.
